Our Story

In 2021, we sat in a French hotel late one night with a couple of cold beers and a surprisingly tasty pizza from an automated vending machine (yes, that is a thing!), trying to relax after a 12-hour day of meetings, trying to explain to our bosses why their bikes were not selling very well in the UK market.

The answer was very simple: the bikes were not particularly good value for money, the quality wasn’t great, and they were very outdated in style and technology. Telling the people who pay your wages that painful truth is not easy but telling them repeatedly and not being listened to was even more challenging. We decided at that moment that we needed to do something drastic to stop our passion for environmentally kinder forms of transport, with all the health and mental wellbeing benefits they bring being worn down by staying part of a big corporate money-making machine that didn’t care.

The Republic was born!

We went away and spent over a year, receiving crucial feedback from our customers and all of the experts running high-quality bicycle shops around the country, before searching for brands that were aligned with our values and shared the same passion that we have.
